Terms of use
Effective 2026-11-01
1. The service
I Told You So is a shared record of claims, predictions, and disagreements. Two people can file a claim, set a deadline and a confidence level, and later record what happened. Solo records settle on the author's word and are labeled self-reported.
This is not a betting service. There is no money, no odds, no wagering, and no payout tied to an outcome. The site exists to keep a record, not to place stakes.
2. Who can use it
You must be at least 16 years old, or older if the law where you live requires that age to use an online service without a parent or guardian. You must be able to enter into a binding agreement. If you use the service for an organization, you confirm you may accept these terms for it.
3. Accounts, usernames, and guest records
- You need an account to file, accept, or settle a claim. You can start as a guest; adding an email and password later keeps the same account and record.
- Your username is permanent, is also a login identifier, and cannot be changed. Your display name can be changed; claims keep the name they were filed with.
- Give accurate information and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- Do not impersonate another person, create accounts to evade a suspension, or claim a username you have no right to use.
4. Claims are user content
Claims, names, notes, sources, screenshots, proposals, and outcomes are supplied by the people using the service. We do not verify them. A claim being on the record does not make it true, and a confirmed outcome is an agreement between the participants, not a finding of fact.
Do not file a claim about someone else that is unlawful, defamatory, or that you do not have a reasonable basis to make. Do not upload evidence you do not have the right to share.
5. Your content and permission to host it
You keep ownership of what you write and upload. You give the operator a non-exclusive, worldwide license to store, copy, display, compress or resize images, and share that content as needed to run the service: showing the claim to its participants, opening it from a link, and listing it if it is made public.
The license ends when the content is deleted, except for backups that age out and for records that were anonymized rather than deleted (see the deletion section). Feedback you send may be used without obligation to you.
6. Acceptable use
- Do not harass, threaten, dox, or defame anyone, and do not upload illegal content.
- Do not use the service to gamble, offer odds, or move money between participants.
- Do not scrape, crawl, or bulk-collect claims, profiles, or evidence, or try to access records you were not given.
- Do not probe or break the service, bypass access controls, or interfere with other people's records.
- Do not upload malware, phishing pages, or content that infringes someone else's rights.
- Do not use the service if you are under the minimum age in section 2.
7. Who can see a claim
New claims are unlisted: anyone who holds the link can read the claim, and only participants can change it. A private claim is limited to its participants while that option exists. A public claim may be listed in a public section when that feature is enabled.
Do not put sensitive information, passwords, financial details, or private health information in a claim, a note, or a screenshot. Link holders and, for public claims, anyone can read what you post.
8. Deleting a claim or an account
You can delete a claim while nobody else depends on it. Once someone accepts, the record stays.
Deleting your account erases your profile and login, deletes your evidence and unanswered invites, and retires your username. Claims you were part of stay on the record with “Deleted account” in place of your name, so the other person's history is not destroyed. A claim with a deleted participant becomes read-only.
9. Availability and changes
The service is provided on a best-effort basis. It may be unavailable, lose data, or change. Features can be added, changed, or removed. We may suspend or end access for abuse, security, legal reasons, or to protect other users.
10. Our property
The site, its design, name, and code are owned by the operator or used with permission. These terms do not give you a right to copy or reuse them, except for your own content and for normal use of the service.
11. Disclaimers
The service and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent permitted by law, no warranty is made about accuracy, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Claims are not advice of any kind. You are responsible for the decisions you make based on them.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or reputational harm arising from the service or from content posted by users. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including mandatory consumer rights.
13. Changes to these terms
These terms may change as the service changes. The effective date at the top will move. If a change materially affects your rights, it will be announced on the site or by email before it applies. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the updated terms.
